“This is frustrating. You guys need to pack up and leave,” told Pettit to the squatters.
But, those words had no impact on the squatters, and that’s when the couple couldn’t take it anymore and called the police. The day was the 14th of November.
When the police arrived, the intruders told the police that they had the mail addressed to them at that home and provided them with evidence.
And that’s when the officer told the couple, “I am really sorry. I do feel bad for you folks, but there’s nothing I can do here.”
What this means is that anyone can transfer their address and simply take over their home.
Here’s what the couple had to say about this problem, “I can walk down just any street, note down any address, apply for a change in address for free and as long as I keep getting my mails there, I can live in anyone’s house for as long as I want to. I can walk around, sit down for dinner, kick them out of their bedroom—just anything.”
And the thing is, the homeowners can’t do a single thing about it.”
